Days 4 + 5 - second day of classes and Downtown Stuttgart

 Tuesday was our second day of classes at Wiggy. We woke up and went to school with our partners. After the 5th period, many of us started heading to the Inselbad - an outdoor pool, just down the street from Wiggy. The pool wasn't just an ordinary pool - there were sections dedicated to diving boards, various kids play areas, water slides, and more. Some students did other things, such as going to the Porsche museum.



On Wednesday, we went to classes for the first 3 blocks. Most of that time we were in class with our partners and part of the time we were in homeroom with our group. Then we went to downtown Stuttgart for a tour of the Rathaus (town hall) and a guided tour of the center of Stuttgart. We got to ride in the Paternoster elevator at the town hall - it is a unique, continuously moving chain elevator with open compartments that allow passengers to enter and exit at different floors without the elevator stopping. On the city tour, we learned a lot about the architecture in Stuttgart, as well as the history of the city.


     



  

    





After the city tour, we had time on our own to explore Königstraße - the pedestrian zone and main shopping street in downtown Stuttgart. When our group met up, some of us headed back to Untertürkheim to meet our partners at school. Others stayed in town and our partners met us there to explore some more.
One of the places that some students visited was the Stadtbibliothek (city library) - they were very impressed by the style of the library, the number of books there and the view from the roof - here are some pictures.

Day 1 and 2 in Koblenz

 We arrived in Koblenz on Friday afternoon around 19:00. We walked with our luggage to the hotel in town. After dropping off our bags at the hotel we walked back into the town to split up and get food before  heading back to the hotel.      The next morning we woke up early to go on a boat that would take us along the Rhine River to the town Braubach. In Braubach we did fun team building activities that made the time go by. After we were done with the team building activities we walked through part of the town to the hillside next to it. We then had a short hike up to the Marksburg Castle. Once we got up to the castle we had free time before a tour of the inside. After the tour and some lunch we hiked back down through the town.  After we walked through the town we walked for about an hour towards another stop for the boat. Once we left the boat we went on the Seilbahn Koblenz, a gondola to go to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, with amazing views of Koblenz. ...

Days 8 - 10 - the weekend and Monday, June 30

 On Saturday, we met in Obertürkheim to do a scavenger hunt that Frau Kellar had set up for us. We worked in teams (Germans and Americans together) and followed clues to solve a mystery. The scavenger hunt was a lot of fun and we ended up in Untertürkheim at Wiggy! (We were all so focused on the clues that no one remembered to take pictures!) At Wiggy, we learned how to make Spätzle the real way - Spätzle schaben - instead of using a press. Frau Mayer, who works in the office at the school, was kind enough to take her Saturday to teach us. Day 14 - Last day of school and a friendly soccer game

 Today was our last day of school at Wiggy. We can't believe how fast the last two weeks have gone! We had the afternoon off - some people went to the Porsche Museum, others went to the pool, into town to do some last minute shopping or home to rest. Then we met at the soccer field for a friendly soccer game against our German partners. Everyone from our group played and we had so much fun! The final score was a 2-2 tie. After the game, we had ice cream that was brought to us by Anne (one of the German teachers).
